In most versions of the myth, but especially Aeschlyus', Zeus does not just deprive humanity of fire. Prometheus calls it "mortal man's instructress in every art and their great providing means".
Prometheus also claims to have given humanity, among other things, domesticated animals, the wheel, the boat, the arts of divination, medicine, and metalworking.
Fire, though, is the basis of all our technology, even today, and its loss (supernatural or otherwise) would almost certainly plunge any advanced society into a dark age. Even Ancient Greek society would lose their weapons and tools, their means of trade (pottery, specifically in the case of Athens), their art (again, pottery), and their ability to function at night, stay warm, and even cook.
